DAVE BRUBECK TRIBUTE SHOW ADELAIDE
About
Dave Brubeck Tribute Adelaide: The Dave Brubeck Story, a unique tribute to the life and music of legendary jazz pianist, Dave Brubeck and his classic quartet of the 50’s and 60’s. The quartet featured Paul Desmond, alto saxophone, Joe Morello, drum kit and Eugene Wright on double bass. Desmond’s tune “Take Five” performed by The Dave Brubeck Quartet became the highest-selling jazz instrumental of all time while its album, “Time Out, attained status as the first platinum jazz disc with over a million copies sold on its release.
Brendan Fitzgerald Quartet performs Dave Brubeck Quartet’s music authentically and with their own interpretative touch. Brendan also relates Brubeck’s intriguing life story, delivering a narrative at the piano together with a supporting visual montage in a moving tribute to this late great icon of cool jazz. A new development in the production is the incorporation of live vision of the performers blended with the image montage using VJ software and hardware.
The quartet comprises Andy Firth, internationally recognised alto sax/clarinet genius, Satomi Ohnishi (Japan) percussion, Quentin Dunne, double bass and Brendan on piano. Adelaide-based saxophonist Peter Raidel, performs with the quartet when Andy Firth is not available.
The production was staged in four shows in the 2015 Adelaide Fringe Festival at Brighton Concert Hall, a brilliant new auditorium at Brighton Secondary School. Additional shows in early 2015 were staged in Sydney at The Basement and Sutherland Entertainment Centre and in Melbourne at the Clock Tower Centre.
